Running is a great way to get fit and to stay in shape. There are many running events that take place throughout the year, affording anybody of any skill level the opportunity to test themselves. Train hard, compete, and try for your personal best time. Running events are also a great way to collect sponsorship money and to do your bit for a charity that means something to you or aids a cause that is close to your heart.
Choosing your event means first being honest about your running skill level. There are running events organised for people of any skill so whether you’re a novice and want to train for your first event or you are a seasoned fun runner you can find events that are ideal for your skill level. You will also find that the entry fee for events will often differ depending on whether it is a competitive run or created for charity runners.
Distance is also an important consideration. If you’re a 5k runner then taking part in next year’s marathon may not be a viable option without considerable extra training. Many fun runs are either 5 or 10 kilometres in length whereas half and full marathons are 13 and 26 miles respectively. Choose the distance that suits you and, if you’re a novice looking to set an early goal, choose something realistic. You can always build up and take part in other running events later.
Choose your charity early. Some will provide you with assistance in getting sponsorship and others offer a more involved experience so that you can even see how your sponsorship money will be spent. Some organisations have limited places available for certain races and this means that the earlier you contact them, the greater your chance to receive a place in the race.
Once you receive your sponsorship pack you can start collecting pledges. Ask family and friends as well as colleagues and even customers. Set up a Justgiving page where you can collect online sponsorship money without the additional hassle of having to go round and collect the money in person. Above all, train for the race and be ready to have fun running too.
